The 30th edition of the Bibliotéka international book fair will present domestic and foreign literature, new books and, traditionally, a rich literary accompanying programme for adults and children. Here’s what to expect from the fair that will take place from November 9 to 12:
Foreign stars and well-known names from Slovakia
Oliver Pötzsch, the author of successful historical detective series, will present his new book on the very first day of the fair, Thursday, November 9 at 17:00. Another prominent guest from abroad is the Russian author living in Switzerland, Mikhail Shishkin. In his new book, he searches for the true story of Putin’s regime and the invasion of Ukraine. It will be presented to visitors on Saturday, November 11 at 17:30.
Except for above mentioned, visitors will have a chance to meet Juraj Červenák, Václav Neuer, Peter Šloser, Anton and Andrea Heretik, Svetlana Žuchová, Juraj Buzalka and many other authors. Accompanying programmes will run for the entire four days on five literary stages. For a complete schedule, click on www.incheba.sk.
World of fairytales for children
There is no doubt that being familiar with books from an early age is important for the development of vocabulary, attention and creativity.
The book fair has an interesting offer for children: reading, playing, singing, drawing, dancing and meeting with children’s books authors like Braňo Jobus, Vanda Rozenbergová, Babča Kardošová, Miriam Bielichová, Peter Nagy, Gabriela Futová, Zuzana Štelbaská, Emília Popálencová and others.
However, this is still only part of a programme for children filled with stories, games, music and fun activities.
Get into the world of comics, fantasy and a bit of reality and science
At the book fair, visitors can talk about comics and fantasy literature with experts. FantasyFEST will also offer an advice to young budding authors, reveal the reason why thousands of readers reach for the fantasy genre, and present novelties of the most famous and best authors of Slovak fantasy. At the same time, the results of the 2023 Martinus Fantasy Prize will be announced.
The Week of Science and Technology AMAVET 2023 will also be held during Bibliotéka: in the finals of the competition, visitors will meet dozens of young people - primary and secondary school students who tirelessly devoted themselves to the creation of a scientific project in their free time.
Support of Ukrainian literature
As well as in the previous edition of the fair, Bibliotéka provides a free exhibition space to showcase Ukrainian publishing houses and authors, who will present themselves as a part of the accompanying programme. Compared to 2022, the support of Ukrainian authors is even more significant.
