ALONG with traditional tours of Bratislava and sights in its vicinity, the Bratislava Culture and Information Centre (BKIS) is now providing visitors with a tour of communist Bratislava.
During a three-hour tour, fans will see famous, as well as infamous, architectural landmarks built between 1948 and 1989. Among them is the Slavín war memorial, Petržalka housing estate, the inverted pyramid Slovak Radio building, Námestie Slobody (Freedom Square), the Slovak National Gallery and the UFO restaurant atop the New Bridge.
Bratislava Castle is also on the list, though it preceeds socialism. However, traces of socialism exist in its architcture due to the considerable reconstruction performed by the regime.
