Indonesian Cultural Evening
The Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia and the International Women's Club (IWC) of Bratislava will present "Discover Indonesia", a cultural evening at 18:00 on May 11 at Bratislava's Hotel Danube on Rybné námestie. The evening will highlight the dance, music, food and traditional batik costumes of the island republic's Java region. Tickets are available for 250 Sk each at the weekly IWC coffee morning on Tuesday from 10:30 till 13:00 at Hotel Danube. Tel: 5934 0000.
Italian Institute film festival
The Italian Culture Institute in Bratislava invites you to see the film Il Ciclone (Cyclone) by Leonardo Pieraccioni. The movie tells the story of the Quarians, a Tuscan family whose life is completely turned round after a group of Spanish female dancers invades the family circle and interferes with its customs and opinions. Goethe Institute exhibitions
Dance Theatre Today - 30 Years of German Dancing is an exhibition of more than 60 photographs that capture scenes of renowned German dance groups and artists from the past 30 years. The Goethe Institute is holding this exhibition at Aréna Theatre on Viedenská cesta 10 in Petržalka till May 27. Tel: 6225 0013.
An exhibition entitled A European from Bratislava, features sculptures and pictures of Bratislava-born German artist Georg von Kovats. Austrian Culture Centre book presentation
Slovak Alma Munzová will present Austrian writer Gerald Brettschuh's book Chess Novel at 18:00 on Thursday, May 10 at Mozartova sieň (Mozart Hall) in the Austrian Embassy on Ventúrska 10 in Bratislava. Tel: 5441 8507.
French Institute exhibition
The exhibition Art Nouveau Posters in Paris features posters designed by nouveau artists like Alfonz Mucha from the beginning of the 20th century. The exhibition runs at Pálffy Palace on Panská 19 in Bratislava till June 10. Tel: 5934 7777.

Austrian Culture Centre exhibition in Prešov

Bratislava Town Gallery
Jan and Meda Mládek's collection of František Kupka and Otto Gutfreund's paintings, which was first displayed in Washington and other cities around the world, comes to Bratislava. A graphic painter and illustrator (1871 - 1957), Kupka is one of the founders of abstract art. Sculptor Gutfreund (1889 - 1927) started to apply analytic cubism principles in his sculptures before World War I. Spanish exhibition at Danubiana

Czech-Slovak film festival
The Czech-Slovak film festival Project 100 - 2001, which aims to show international films that have never appeared in Slovakia, runs till the end of May. Films will be shown at various filmclubs or cinemas in their original versions with Slovak or Czech subtitles. For movie times and locations, check posted schedules at filmclubs and cinemas.
