Western SLOVAKIABratislavaMUSIC:AROUND A DOZEN jazz as well as rhythm’n’blues musicians and bands from various countries of central Europe will meet for the 17th time in Bratislava to give a marathon of concerts on two stages titled Livin’ Blues. The rich programme features Mojo & Banda, The Old School Band, Canned Heat Revival, Zuzana Suchánková & Band and many others. Dirty Fred, a Slovak-Hungarian formation including Hubert Tubbs (pictured above), a famed American singer who has cooperated with such stars as Santana and the Rolling Stones, is the highlight of the event. Livin’ Blues will be held on March 14, starting at 16:30. The venue is the Lúky Culture Centre at Vígľašská 1 and tickets cost €9 in advance or €10.50 at the door. Košice
CONCERT:TWO SLOVAK cities, Bratislava and Košice, will soon host Jon Lord, an outstanding British composer and the author of the Concerto for Group and Orchestra, first performed by Deep Purple and The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in 1969. The famous musician will now present the same piece, appreciated mostly for its surprisingly harmonious combination of classical and rock music elements, with the Orchestra of the Slovak Radio. Jon Lord will perform in Bratislava’s Slovak Radio’s Big Concert Studio (Mýtna 1) on March 11 and 12, while the Košice concert will be held at the Palace of Art (Moyzesova 66) on March 14, all three starting at 20:00.
