Western SLOVAKIA Bratislava FESTIVAL: THEATRE halls throughout Bratislava will be hosting performances by both local and foreign ensembles as part of the New Drama festival that will take place between May 11 and 16. Its fifth edition will feature a wide range of plays of different genres as well as several interesting accompanying events. These include, for example, a joint exhibition by Slovak scenographer Juraj Fábry and his Serbian colleague Miodrag Tabački, and a lecture titled New Writing in British Theatre Today given by Aleks Sierz, a British theatre critic and reviewer and one of the most outstanding contemporary drama theoreticians. FOLKLORE: Rajkó – Rajkó, a 100-member Hungarian gypsy music orchestra, arrives for the first time in Slovakia with a three-hour show full of hot rhythms and melodies. Bangó Margit, nicknamed in her homeland the “queen of gypsy songs”, is the special guest.

MUSICAL:THE CITY of Košice will soon feel a breath of ancient times thanks to the opening of Cleopatra, a well-known Czech musical that has been seen by thousands of viewers. Featuring some of the most popular Czech singers and actors, this story of hate and love between a couple who were once the world’s most powerful man and woman, is an unforgettable artistic experience. Some knowledge of Czech or Slovak is helpful, but not completely necessary. The performance will be held at the Steel Arena at Nerudova 12 on May 16, starting at 16:00 and 19:30.
