Bratislava SHOW: THE SLOVAK National Theatre in Bratislava will feature a retrospective of world-renowned Slovak mime, tutor, lecturer, director and author Milan Sládek on March 14 in its historical building. The show will offer a ‘best of’ overview of Sládek’s 50 years of professional work from his first attempts at this genre, Slnečnica (Sunflower), through classical French pantomime (Pierot’s Loves) and parody (Chocho San), to biblical stories (Kain a Ábel, Herodes, and others). ECONOMICS LECTURE: Nobel Prize Lecture Series – The series this time brings Professor Robert A. Mundell, Nobel laureate and father of the idea of currency unions, to the Great Hall of the University of Economics in Bratislava (EUBA). The lecture is in English and will be interpreted into Slovak.

BENEFIT CONCERT: Slávnostný koncert ku Dňu výskumu rakoviny - The Festive Concert for the Day of Cancer Research will host, in addition to the winners of the Contest of Young Oncologists, the Slovak Chamber Orchestra of Bohdan Warchal (W.A. Mozart and B. Britten) and the vocal group Close Harmony Friends (rock, pop, jazz and gospel in a capella style). The revenues go to cancer research.

EXHIBITION: Měkkohlaví – This exhibition of the City Gallery (GMB) brings, with the help of City Gallery in Pilsen, the works of a group of Czech, Moravian and Silesian artists – and two Slovaks – founded in 1998 which was half-illegal during communism and active shortly before and after its fall.

Spišská Nová Ves

MUSEUM: VISITORS to the Spiš Museum in Spišská Nová Ves can see a special programme called Dialógy by Adam Bujak and Pascal le Doaré: From the Abbey Escaladieu in Bigorre to Červený Kláštor (the Red Monastery) in Spiš. The program introduces the architecture and environment of two monasteries, one under the French Pyrenees mountains and the other in the Slovak Pieniny mountains. It also shows the influence of three religious orders – Cistercians (White Monks), Carthusians and Kamalduls and their lifestyles and activities. The atmosphere is captured in photographs by Adam Bujak. The exhibit is open Mon-Fri 8:00-16:30 and on weekends from 9:00 to 13:00 for €0.50 to €1 until April 27. DANCE THEATRE: Carmen – The Slovak Dance Theatre brings a new, innovative view of the classical story. Their version has become universal and modern though still respecting the original version of G.
