Western SLOVAKIA

This year’s Bratislava Old Town Summer of Culture / Staromestské kultúrne leto series includes a concert of classical Indian music featuring some renowned musicians. Kala Ramnath, a versatile and respected musician will play violin with Abhijit Banerjee, one of the most significant Indian players of the traditional tabla percussion instrument and the composer of the music for “The Trail”, a documentary which received several awards including one for music. The concert will take place on July 6 at 20:30, in the courtyard of Zichy Palace on Ventúrska Street, admission €3. For more information, please go to www.staremesto.sk.

MUSIC FESTIVAL: Bažant Pohoda Festival – This well-established festival of music and more, which takes place each year at Trenčín Airport, lures thousands of visitors with attractions from movie screenings and a final Sunday mass to a classical performance by the Košice Philharmonic Orchestra, dance programmes, international rock acts, local bands like Para, Bez ladu a skladu, Mňága a Žďorp (from the Czech Republic), and many others.

Central SLOVAKIA

The traditional Poľana Folklore Festivities / Folklórne slávnosti pod Poľanou in Detva will feature more than 1,400 performers, 10 scenic programmes, 11 accompanying events, 8 traditional markets and 7 exhibitions, most of them between July 9 and 11. The festival includes performances by folklore ensembles, workshops comprising folk dancing, classes in mastering the old fujara (a traditional woodwind instrument) and traditional crafts; master wood-carvers; amateur sculptors; demonstrations of the typical life and work of shepherds; and much more. For a single ticket costing between €1.50 and €3.50, visitors will be able to choose what they see in the local amphitheatre, cultural centre, the Podpolianske Museum and other venues. It also includes dance music and screenings of popular series from Slovak TV channel JOJ.
