Huszár named year's best photographer
DOCUMENTARY PHOTO-GRAPHER Tibor Huszár was named Photographer of the Year 2007 at an award ceremony in Bratislava, the SITA newswire wrote.
The jury, which was chaired by Marián Pauer, selected Huszár for the content, layout, and graphic qualities of his publications Na krídlach večnosti (On the Wings of Eternity), Letokruhy Večnosti (Tree Rings of Eternity), and Retrospektíva (Retrospective).
Other nominees included Jana Ilková, Ivan Kenéz, Jakub Klimo, Lucia Nimcová, Pavel Pecho, Bohumil Puskailer and Silvia Vaculíková.
Photographer Viliam Malík also received an award - the Golden Badge of the Association of Slovak Photographers - in honour of his 95th birthday, which is being celebrated with a retrospective entitled Cross-section of a Contemporary Slovak Photographer during the Month of Photography.
Jankovič work breaks sales record
SVEDECTVO V (Evidence V) by Slovak sculptor Jozef Jankovič sold for Sk1 million (€30,000) at the Auction of Contemporary Art in Bratislava on October 23.
The director of the SOGA auction house, which held the event, stated the amount is the new record for a work by a living Slovak artist, the Hospodárske Noviny daily wrote.
The bidding on Jankovič's work started at Sk600,000, with expectations it could go as high as Sk2 million.
The buyer is anonymous and made the purchase by phone. The previous record for Jankovič's work was Sk74,000.
In total, more than half of the 107 works offered at the auction were sold, raising Sk2.4 million (€72,300).
