THE GLORY Gospel Singers from New York, one of the world's most successful vocal-instrumental ensembles, will tour Slovakia in February. The highly professional seven-member ensemble presents the unique energy of black American religious culture. In songs full of passion, love and life they express their sincere and deep faith. The enthusiasm they convey often gets the audience dancing in the aisles. The choir's Slovak tour starts February 5 in Bratislava. The concert starts at 19:00 at Istropolis on Trnavské mýto 1. SHROVETIDE Is Closing, a carnival folk festival in Čierny Balog with roots in ancient peasant traditions and superstitions, enters its 10th year. The programme, running from February 4 to 8, will start with a children's masked parade and a carnival ball. Handicrafts will be on sale the morning of February 5. There will be a trhance (a kind of traditional pasta) cooking competition in the afternoon. Folk music and dance ensembles will perform on the Saturday as well as on the Sunday. On Tuesday February 8, starting at 20:00, the traditional "burying of the double bass" will mark the end of the joyful Shrovetide period and start of the 40-day fasting Lent.
