Hungary's most successful rock band, Omega, will give two concerts in Slovakia during its European tour, in Bratislava and Košice. The band was one of those rare entities known outside the Eastern bloc during Communism. Its releases in multiple languages won it international success and the 1969 song Gyöngyhajú lány became a worldwide hit that was later covered by the Scorpions on their 1995 live release, with new lyrics and the title White Dove. The two shows in Slovakia will also feature renowned Slovak keyboardist Marián Varga. The Bratislava concert will take place at the National Tennis Centre at Príkopova 6 on May 23 at 19:30. Omega will play in Košice in the amphitheatre at Festivalové námestie 2 on May 24 at 19:30. Tickets range between Sk550 and Sk1,300. For more information, call 031/5516-342.

Prominent Slovak film director Dušan Hanák (Pictures of Old Word, 322, Rose Dreams and Paper Heads) introduces a lesser known facet of his work - photography - in an exhibition entitled Records and Messages, which takes place in the northwestern town of Dolný Kubín. Hanák draws inspiration from urban settlements, town folklore and street galleries on the outskirts. The Records cycle depicts objects, still-lives and people living beyond the generally accepted norms. The Messages are the photos of original and unusual texts. The exhibition is open daily, except Monday, between 10:00 and 17:00 until June 18. Tickets cost Sk20. The Oravská galéria (Orava Gallery) sits at Hviezdoslavovo námestie 11 in Dolný Kubín.
