Sharpe | Music Festival 2018

The concept of a showcase festival and music conference returns back to Bratislava in April under the name SHARPE. The festival will be held in the cultural space Nová Cvernovka from 27 to 28 April 2018, hosting more than 25 performances on 6 stages. SHARPE will have plenty to offer to fans including open-air performances or “unplugged” sessions. A music conference as part of the festival offers the possibility to attend lectures and panels or participate in workshops.
Visitors will have the unique chance to discover fresh Slovak and international artists producing various genres from experimental electronic music and post-club scene to rock, shoegaze, jazz fusion, psychedelic music or indie folk. Ekotopfilm, with its 44 year tradition, is the oldest event of its kind in the world. The festival has established more than 5000 partnerships in more than 58 countries. It is the largest festival of its kind within the Slovak Republic. More than 1 million visitors have attended overall. The festival aims to connect the public, private, and third sector through sustainable development themes. It has become one of the largest and most visited events in the world. Friedrich Weinwurm (1885 - 1942) was the most significant representative of the architectural avantgarde in Slovakia. His ideas of architecture gradually developed to encompass its societal importance. Architect Friedrich Weinwurm: New Path- The exhibition commemorates the work of Friedrich Weinwurm (1885 – 1942), the most significant representative of the architectural avantgarde in Slovakia. The exhibition introduces the visitor to the ideas and expressive concepts of Weinwurm's work and indirectly asks the question which direction did Slovak architecture take after the tragic historical events and social changes of the Second World War? The eights - The exhibition project The Eights is unconventionally conceived for the atrium as a series of small exhibitions for the anniversaries of the eights: February 1948, August 1968 and October 1918. The basis of the exhibition is a long, 3-meter high wall - "gallery noticeboard" - on which the visual collages will be rotated according to the anniversaries. The results will be a draft or materialised Pinterest board, a reminder of socialist "noticeboard culture". The collages will consist of artistic materials of various types (paintings, photographs, documents), primarily from the collections of the SNG. The final layout, the conflict of the artworks next to each other, their juxtaposition will speak about the nature of the historical event. Xenia Hausner: Shaky Times - Xenia Hausner paints people, delving without sentimentality into the failures her protagonists experience, constructing a shorthand from daily life focusing on love, loss and the insecurity of our presence in our times. Her works depict society - they are deeply personal and yet radiate far beyond the parameters of the individual. The artist’s large, intensely colourful works draw the viewer into the mysterious world of interpersonal relationships. Mainly women, powerfully expressive, inhabit the stage she sets for her images, women who seem to be testing roles, contrary paradigms, alternative possibilities to thousands of years of patriarchal history.
