Once a famous Slovak rock singer Richard Muller told media that his fame ended as soon as he crossed the Slovak - Austrian customs checkpoint in Berg. The same can be said about Bratislava. To an average European, the word "Bratislava" is an unknown term. He or she has virtually no idea that the word signifies the name of the capital city of a soon-to-be European Union member country. Bratislava is facing a clear problem of identity that lags behind its development as an attractive international tourist and business destination. At the beginning of its election term, the new city hall identified "putting Bratislava on the map" as one of its main goals. It will require a new approach to promotion of the city abroad, reconstruction of the Bratislava information service, as well as forming a marketing strategy and corporate identity for the city.
