Konvergencie festival draws nearer, tickets on sale

THE ANNUAL festival of chamber music – which has proven its name by merging various musical styles and genres – has started selling tickets, with festival passes available for €59 (instead of €100) until the end of August.

The 16th year of the Konvergencie / Convergences festival offers nine concerts between September 10 and 20, at various sites in Bratislava – from small halls or a former-factory-turned-cultural-venue, through established music halls, to St Martin’s Cathedral.

The concerts vary as well, with the opening one featuring the rock/songwriter duo Longital, through September 14 with the works of Estonian Arvo Pärt, Slovak Vladimír Godár and John Tavener performed by Peter Mikuláš-bass, Eva Šušková-soprano, Hilda Gulásová-soprano, Bernadett Nagy-Hungary-alto, Juraj Kuchár-tenor, Marek Vrábel-organ, Jozef Lupták-cello, Peter Biely-SK/ES-violin, and Simon Tandree-UK-viola.

The second concert is called the Chassidic Songs (Shostakovich, Scheinfeld, Prokofiev performed by Igor Karško-violin, Jozef Lupták-cello, Nora Skuta-piano, Miki Skuta-piano, Branislav Dugovič-clarinet, Peter Biely-SK/ES-violin, Simon Tandree-UK-viola, rabbi Baruch Myers-vocals, piano, Miloš Valent-violin, viola, Boris Lenko-accordion).

Other gigs include the recital of famous chamber Moyzes Quartet, a concert for children, or the concert Amores Pasados, an album of songs by ex-Hilliard Ensemble John Potter, Norwegian soprano Anna Marie Friman and lute players Ariel Abramovich and Jacob Heringman performing works of Thomas Campion, John Paul Jones (Led Zeppelin), Tony Banks (Genesis) and Sting.

The Bratislava Night of Chamber Music brings work of Béla Bartók, Ernő Dohnányi, Zoltán Kodály, Mikuláš Schneider-Trnavský and Alexander Albrecht performed by Igor Karško-violin, Peter Biely-violin Simon Tandree– viola, Jozef Lipták-cello, Nora Skuta-piano, Milan Paľa-violin, Ladislav Fančovič-piano, Ronald Šebesta-clarinet, Martin Novák-French horn, and Miki Skuta-piano – including an intro about music in general.
