Košice conductor wins European contest

THIRTY-year-old conductor of the Košice State Theatre Igor Dohovič won the 10th annual competition organised by the European Union for young conductors, which took place from October 12 to 14 in Spoleto, Italy, the SITA news agency reported.

The Prešov native, who competed against 27 conductors from around Europe, conducted the Spoleto Opera Orchestra performing La Traviata by Giuseppe Verdi. Dohovič graduated from the Music Academy in Lvov, Ukraine. He has been working at the Košice theatre for six years.
