Krupina

THE FREE royal town of Krupina in southern Slovakia made huge sacrifices to fulfil its 16th-century role as part of the defensive line against Turkish invasion, suffering almost a century and a half of fear, battles and tragedies.But worth noting is that Krupina indeed never fell into Turkish hands. Moreover, it simultaneously had to defend itself from attacks by the very neighbouring castles that had pledged to help it repel the Turks. “Vartovka”, a watchtower from those times, still stands above the town and evokes that period. It is the only such preserved monument in Slovakia.This postcard shows Krupina in the 1920s.
