ALTHOUGH the first two concerts of the Slovak Philharmonic Orchestra (Slovenská Filharmónia, SF) already took place on September 11 and 14, the regular season of the national ensemble of classical music will start on October 17 (with a repeat on October 18).
The two symphonic concerts will introduce two renowned artists, Iranian conductor Alexander Rahbari, who has been cooperating with the SF for almost three decades, and Slovak violin virtuoso Dalibor Karvay.
Karvay, now 28, was dubbed a prodigy since he started giving concerts at the age of seven and recorded his first album at 10, the SF informed in a press release. In 2005, he received a violin from the Brussels workshop of Mathiew Devuyst, thanks to a sponsorship of the Central-European Foundation.
He and the Slovak Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Rahbari, will play the demanding Concert for Violin and Orchestra in D Major by Johannes Brahms and Symphony No. 3 in E Flat Major, also known as Eroica, by Ludwig van Beethoven.
Other upcoming concerts of the Bratislava-based SF include Slovenský komorný orchester Bohdana Warchala / The Slovak Chamber Orchestra (SKO) Bohdan Warchal performing works of Mozart and Slovaks Jozef Grešák and Eugen Suchoň; and the Slovak Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Piotr Gribanov, with Martin Levický on piano, playing the works of Russian composers Shostakovich, Prokofiev and Rachmaninoff.
