Photographer Tomáš Hulík (source: TASR)
The Federation of European Professional Photographers (FEP) gave an important award to Slovak photographer Tomáš Hulík, his agent reported at the end of March.
An international jury of 14 professional photographers (presided over by Danish Jørgen Brandt who has exhibited in Bratislava) awarded him third place in the category Wildlife for a series of five photographs.
In 2018, more than 200 professionals of 25 countries took part in the competition, with almost 2,000 works in ten categories.
Tomáš Hulík, an ambassador of the Nikon brand, is a photographer, documentary filmmaker and natural scientist. The Bratislava-based artist graduated from environmental studies at Comenius University and has made several famous and interesting documentary films featuring wildlife. He regularly works for GEO, National Geographic, Universum, and Lidé a Země.

“I perceive this award not just as a matter of professional prestige but also as a reminder of the deeper sense of my work,” Tomáš Hulík said after having received the prize in Dublin. He added that he was focused mostly on wildlife photography, and that “taking pictures is a lifestyle for me, love and livelihood at the same time – as well as an enormous passion”.
Nature offers innumerable opportunities for a photographer; it is varied and colourful, Hulík opined. “It is a manifold field in which a photographer can apply his skills to the maximum,” Hulík explained. “Apart from wildlife photographs, I also like landscape photography and I like to take pictures of people as well.”
