“Interest in more pleasant living is growing,” said Stanislav Kalinay chairman of the JUB board of directors as cited by the TASR newswire. “This year’s demand for paint is 20-percent higher than a couple of years ago.”
Kalinay added that this increase is due to the better financial situation among Slovaks and also young people's interest in having their own place.
“Although white is dominant among the colours, a combination of walls with different colours and shades is trendy,” explained Kalinay. “Brown – suitable for living rooms – was the hit of the summer, but also Bordeaux [claret] – suitable for bedrooms.”
The colour is chosen by women in up to 80 percent of cases, and they are less conservative than men. Concerning the type of colours, Slovaks mainly paint interiors.
