“The group will be equipped with a frontal torch, thermo sleeping bag to -29 Celsius, camping mats and packages of instant food,” said one of the organizers Lukáš Brodanský, as quoted by the TASR newswire.

Winter camping is familiar to mountain guide Peter Tomko who will supervise the project from the expert side.

“My task is to pass experiences on from camping and bivouacking. All the participants will go through training about building tents in the mountains in the winter season and get information about the suitability of sleeping bags, preparation of food as well as rules for sleeping in the tents and clothing for the night,” explained Tomko for TASR.

Tomko added that participants have to realize that winter camping is different to summer camping because of temperature, wind and snow.

“In this case is there is snow water, from water is humidity and from humidity is cold,” stated Tomko for TASR. He recommends participants read the articles from polar expeditions and to accustom their bodies to the cold by showering in cold water.

“We shouldn’t be afraid of walking in freezing weather and should take a freezing temperatures as a fact and adapt to it,” summed up Tomko for TASR.

Snow Camp will be open on February 11 and 18, and March 4.
