“The study analysed the overall development of the quality of life in 140 capitals across the globe in years 2009-2014,” Ľubomír Andrassy, then head of the Bratislava mayor’s office, told the TASR newswire, “and based on 30 indicators Bratislava made it to the group of cities in which the quality of life is on a high level and people perceive only small obstacles in their everyday life.”
Compared to 2009 the Slovak capital improved its position mostly thanks to the projects focused on infrastructure, education and active social and cultural life, Andrassy added.
Aside from Bratislava, also Vancouver, Toronto, Melbourne, Sydney, Vienna and Helsinki appeared in the top 10 cities with the highest quality of life.
“We are pleased by the results of the study, but we realise that despite the positive evaluation of one of the most prestigious world economic magazines it is clear that in everyday life there are many problems which annoy Bratislavans, and they rightfully expect the representatives of the city to solve them,” Andrassy said, as quoted by TASR.
This includes the requirements to keep the city clean, to maintain order or to be more active in revitalising public spaces, he added.
