BRATISLAVA residents and visitors may recently have spotted a white tram asking them ‘Do you want to know how things work?’. It is a mobile advertisement for a new exhibition at the Slovak National Museum’s Detské múzeum (Children’s Museum).
The museum's newest exhibition is called About Three Cents and is for children from 8 to 14 to teach them about the history and function of money in a playful and interactive way. Children can learn about economic terminology and how to effectively handle money but also about important things in life that cannot be bought with money: friendship, love and goodwill.
The Children’s Museum opened in 2010 as a joint project of the SNM and the Art Friend association and is part of Hands On! International, an association of children’s museums. The “hands on” principle stresses illustrative, clear and interactive activities for young visitors.
The museum has already had exhibitions titled Voyage to Medieval Times, Ancient Greece, Colours of Africa and more recently Energy of the Third Millennium, Global Supermarket and Playful Home. About Three Cents will remain open to visitors until October 2012. More information is available at www.detskemuzeum.sk.
