The Pohoda festival, the first of its kind to be established in Slovakia, was awarded the most environmentally-friendly festival in Europe in January 2018. New ecological features will be implemented in the festival this year.
“Many issues are in the hands of visitors during the festival. They have become a European phenomenon when it comes to their attitude to cleanness, the environment and each other,” said Michal Kaščák, main organizer of the Pohoda festival, as quoted by press release.
Eating and drinking
The first important change will be the handling waste. Besides more locations with trash bins, there will be more collection sites where trained staff will recycle waste. Those places will mainly be in the “gastrozones”.
Bio waste, including dishes and cutlery from biodegradable material, will be compostable at the festival itself.
Single-use plastic cups will be definitely eliminated; even wines and sparkling wines will be served in returnable cups. There will be more ashtrays for smokers, and organizers expect visitors to use them to prevent a large amount of cigarette butts.
Transport
Drivers of electric cars may look forward to a temporary charging station at the carpark. Solar energy will be used more as well. Visitors will get to Pohoda with an extra train connection as well as by sharing a ride. Shuttle service will be provided from Trenčín to the airport like every year.
Festival clothing will be printed on T-shirts with textile colours with GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard), packed in compostable packing.
The Chemical Brothers, St. Vincent, Jamie Cullum, Kronos Quartet, Ziggy Marley, Glass Animals, Danny Brown, SOJA, Rodriguez, Aurora, Little Dragon and many others will perform at this year's festival between July 5-7 at Trenčín airport.
