BORN from castrated genitals and sea foam, possessing unspeakable beauty and having many divine and earthly lovers, Afrodita (Aphrodite) has always been the goddess of love and pleasure. So where else should Prime Minister Robert Fico take the female employee of his cabinet office for romantic dinners other than to the luxurious restaurant bearing her name?
The fact that the government office has paid its owner over €20,000 since Smer came to power last year might indicate that Fico is starting to see himself as a demigod, who has the state coffers at his disposal. But the more interesting question is: with which mythical figure will he share his fate? Has he, like Icarus, flown too high? Is he, like Prometheus, simply being tortured by his enemies in the media for providing the warmth of social stability to millions of Slovaks? And will the Adonis of local opinion polls also disregard the warning against attacking an animal that shows no fear, and be castrated by a giant boar?
Fortunately for him, no such political animal seems to be in sight. So for now, he can go on playing Zeus.
