With the city preparing to impose city-wide car parking restrictions, the character of Bratislava is about to change.

One of my enduring fears about Slovakia is that one day it will turn into Austria.

I don’t suppose many Bratislavans would complain very much if that were to happen (indeed, the pushy BMW-driving classes are pretty much there already). But you should be careful what you wish for.

At present, Bratislava is one of the few remaining capitals in Europe where you can still park for free within walking distance of the city centre.
