Continuing to shine a spotlight on a vibrant journey with the International Women's Club of Bratislava (IWCB), where Friendship and Philanthropy converge under the guiding hand of one of the founding members and the dedicated social coordinator Klara Frecerova (Kaja), weaving a tapestry of international connections and impactful charity initiatives.
Kaja fosters an environment where cultures converge, walls of division crumble, and international friendships flourish. Her passion for connecting souls and breaking down cultural obstacles is evident in every event she orchestrates. From stimulating discussions, trips and tours, to culturally rich gatherings, she ensures that the essence of friendship and good spirit thrives within.
We asked Kaja what prompted her to establish the club and remain in this crucial role throughout the years.
Kaja’s answer: “When the international community began to grow in Slovakia in early nineties after the borders had been opened, I was lucky to get together with a group of enthusiastic expats mostly from the diplomatic community, as well as distinguished Slovak women with an international perspective, under the guidance of Mrs. Eva Hacker, the wife of the 1st US Consul to Czechoslovakia. Our initiative resulted in the foundation of the International Women’s Club of Bratislava. I had the honour to serve as the vice president in the first two years of its existence.
Our goal is to promote friendship among women, provide opportunities for a greater appreciation of different cultures and help expats familiarize themselves with Bratislava and Slovak culture in general by offering numerous entertainment and educational activities and events. The interests of our members are as diverse as we are.
Through this diversity we gain a network of deep friendships which transcends all cultural, national and age differences. We respect everyone’s viewpoint and are open to all suggestions. IWCB is a club run by members FOR its members, so we need to ensure that we offer something for everyone and that all members enjoy their time in Slovakia.
Throughout the years I have seen members come and go, I have made valuable friendships and learnt many lessons. From introducing charity activities to Slovak people, raising awareness on helping those in need, to building connections between communities, I am now proud that the club has grown strong and continues to maintain the traditions. On the other hand, it brings in new ideas and inspirations. I would not miss this for nothing!”
