Our power to influence the new year goes far beyond applause and booing.
Will we yell at each other or will we talk? Will we give our time to real people or our army of Facebook friends, who might know what jokes make us laugh, where we shop and what media we trust, but their love and interest only reach the extent of the number of likes we give them?
