ONE YEAR after the French retailer Carrefour announced that it was leaving the Slovak market, the Dutch retailer Ahold, which runs the Hypernova and Albert stores, has announced similar plans.

According to the Pravda daily, Ahold decided to leave Slovakia because it was neither the market leader nor number two on the market and achieving such a position would require major investments and management attention. Ahold is also leaving the Polish market for the same reason.
