Nobody knew at first why there was a big hole in the ground by the Slovak parliament a few weeks ago. It later turned out that Speaker Andrej Danko was planning to have a 30-metre-high flagpole erected.
The pole, meant to be higher than the one in Budapest, was raised on August 14 in the end, the TASR newswire reported.
“It will be officially made accessible, with a Slovak flag, during the September 1 ceremony,” Daniel Guspan, a head of the parliament's chancellery, told TASR.
On this day Slovakia celebrates the Constitution Day.

At the start, it was not even known how much Slovak taxpayers would have to pay for Danko's wish to have a new and taller flagpole.
