The Slovak cabinet approved a draft bill on electronic toll collection on certain roads on February 22.
"Tolls should be collected on all freeways. We do not plan to introduce tolls on highways, only to regulate the entry of heavy trucks onto these roads," Transport Minister Pavol Prokopovič said after the cabinet session.
During the first phase, only motor vehicles weighing above 3.5 tons will be obliged to pay tolls.
"In theory the toll system could be launched next year. The timing depends on when parliament adopts the legislation and how the next government proceeds," Prokopovič said.
