The Reuters agency reported on March 11 that the European Commission (EC) has opened an official investigation into accusations that Bratislava Airport has been giving preferential treatment to Ryanair, which pays lower airport charges for existing as well new flights.
The complainant said that under the deal, concluded in December 2005 and running until 2016, the airport offered Ryanair a discount of up to 31 percent for existing destinations and 48 percent for new scheduled destinations.
But the management of Bratislava Airport (BTS) hasn't yet been informed that an investigation of its dealings with Ryanair is underway.
"Bratislava Airport … hasn't been informed or asked for cooperation," BTS spokesperson Dana Madunická told SLOVAKIA on March 11.
The EC dealt with the issue regarding illegal preferential state assistance in January 2007.
"Cooperation in the given matter was then directly offered by central institutions within the Slovak state administration. BTS never communicated on the matter with the EC," she said. TASR
