Cabinet approves Fico's trip to EU summit on Greece

Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico received the backing of his cabinet on May 5 for his attendance at an extraordinary session of the leaders of eurozone countries in Brussels on Friday, May 7.

The summit has been called by European Council President Herman Van Rompuy in order to discuss proposed financial aid to help Greece, which on April 23 officially requested the activation of a rescue package to be funded by the European Union and the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

According to the TASR newswire, Fico said that he intends to meet the government's social partners (i.e. unions and employers' organisations), as well as representatives from Slovakia's banking sector and the central bank prior to the summit in order to discuss the details of his mandate in Brussels.
