Sales of cars in the European Union in January fell to their lowest level since 1990, when car-sales data first started to be released, the Sme daily reported on Wednesday, February 19.
Among the carmakers producing in Slovakia, only Kia, which has a plant in Žilina, recorded overall growth in sales. PSA Peugeot Citroen, which has a plant in Trnava, is restricting output due to weaker demand, but still plans to produce more cars in Trnava as orders for the C3 Picasso model it makes there have increased slightly, Sme added. Volkswagen’s plant in Bratislava is reported to be more oriented towards the Chinese market.
