THE ITALIAN Roman Catholic news agency SIR Europa opened a branch in the Slovak capital in September last year. It covers events related to the Roman Catholic Church and spiritual life in central and eastern Europe, the SITA newswire reported, citing the Bishops’ Conference of Slovakia.
The newsroom is headed by Danka JaceÄŤková, a former reporter for Vatican Radio in Rome and Radio Lumen in Banská Bystrica. Until 2011 JaceÄŤková worked for three years as a local news editor in the press department of the Bishops’ Conference of Slovakia.
SIR Europa, based in Rome, was established in 1998. Bratislava is the second location after Brussels in which the news agency has established a branch office.
“We want to expand European awareness regarding religious happenings in the eastern part of the continent and offer a quality news service,” said Paolo Bustaffa, head of SIR Europa. “We believe that cooperation will develop successfully.”
The Bratislava branch covers events in Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Ukraine and Belarus.
