Individual member states should present clear attitudes at the upcoming NATO summit in Wales, while the current Slovak stances are unreadable, analyst of Central European Policy Institute (CEPI) Marian Majer said at a press conference on September 2 in Bratislava. He continued to say that he expects from President Andrej Kiska, who will represent Slovakia at the summit to confirm the trans-Atlantic message of his inauguration speech in June.
“It will be important because there have been rather unfortunate statements of Slovak leaders as of late,” said Majer, as quoted by the TASR newswire, in reference to various comments by Prime Minister Robert Fico. He also noted that Slovakia has been the only Visegrad Four (Slovakia, Czech Republic, Poland and Hungary) country that still has not announced increased its defence spending.

“The attitudes of Slovakia - and the preparations for the summit have confirmed it - are reactive in long term instead of being pro-active,” Majer said.
Aid for Ukraine will be the main topic of the summit, the SITA newswire quoted analysts as having said. Another topic will be the defence capabilities of NATO in Central and Eastern Europe.
