Communists: Give campaign money to poor miners

The Slovak Communist Party (KSS), with voter support far below the five percent required for seats in parliament, has said parties should not spend too much money on their campaigns ahead of June national elections, and instead should give the funds to "retired disabled miners" from the Slovak town of Handlová.

KSS Chairman Jozef Ševc said that parliamentary elections should be a battleground for election programmes rather than private equity groups, privatizers, foreign influences, and multinational monopolies, the SITA news wire reported.

"The June race should be a matter for Slovakia and not foreign lobbies," he said.
