Constitutional Court handling many filings from Lawyer Partners law firm

The Constitutional Court of the Slovak Republic has received over 55,000 legal filings in the 15 years of its existence. But the law firm named Lawyer Partners has filed almost 34,000 of them, mainly dealing with concession fees for the public broadcaster Slovak Radio. Because of that, the Court records in its statistics ‘including Lawyer Partners’ or ‘not including Lawyer Partners’, said Ivetta Macejková, the spokeswoman of the Constitutional Court, as quoted by the TASR newswire.

In 2008, the court handled 2,505 filings which amounted to 192 issues for each judge. Each judge is thus working at 111 percent, Macejková said, because each of them resolved 11 percent more filings than he or she was assigned.

Last year was quite positive in the number of cases closed as the Constitutional Court closed almost 99 percent of the files ‘inherited’ from the previous term, according to Macejková. She also noted that the international activities of the court were also extended last year to various forms of cooperation with its counterparts in Germany, Russia, Hungary and France.
