The credit of customs offices has been further eroded after an inspection revealed corrupt customs officers for a third time in July. The police inspection team raided a small border crossing, Kalonda-Ipolytarnóc near Lučenec on July 18 and arrested four customs officers involved in smuggling used tires.
The police have seized 613 tires worth Sk1,977,420. The illegal business brought Sk35,000 per one illegal cargo to the purses of bribable officers.
Hungarian customs officers were also involved in the illegal tire deal, Silvia Balázsiková of the Customs directorate told the daily SME.
