Council of Europe Advisory Committee arrives in Slovakia

A three-member delegation of the Council of Europe Advisory Committee on the Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities arrived in Slovakia on Monday, November 30, to evaluate the situation in Slovakia vis-a-vis its commitments to this international convention, the TASR newswire was told by Slovakia's Foreign Affairs Ministry spokesman Peter Stano. “The delegation will meet representatives of the ethnic minorities living in Slovakia, representatives of the central state bodies and municipal bodies, non-governmental organisations and research institutes, members of parliament, Ombudsman Pavel Kandráč, and will also visit Košice and Šamorín,” said Stano.

The spokesman added that Slovakia, which has come under scrutiny due to its recent State Language Act, is currently in the third round of evaluations of its commitments to the Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities. TASR
