Criticism on internet lands man in hot water

On February 5, the Pravda daily reported that Slovak police have brought their first charges for libel via the internet against a 46-year old resident of Martin.

On February 5, the Pravda daily reported that Slovak police have brought their first charges for libel via the internet against a 46-year old resident of Martin.

The accused took part in an internet discussion in which he allegedly sharply criticised the town’s mayor. Soon after, he received a summons to appear for questioning at a police station, despite having used a screen name during the discussion.

If convicted, he could face one to five years in jail. SITA
