DEPUTY Prime Minister for European Integration Pál Csáky has called for more citizens to be allowed to use minority languages in their official dealings with local administration.
Currently, they have the right to use a particular minority language when more than 20 percent of the community speak that language. Hungarian Coalition (SMK) member Csáky proposes lowering that level to 10 percent.
At present, there are 650 towns and villages that the legislation affects, 500 of those have Hungarian as their second language.
The change would add a further 180 communities to the list, with most having Romany as the second language.
