THE SLOVAK customs administration is undergoing several changes following Slovakia's EU entry. The majority of the 77 customs offices at border crossings are closing, leaving only seven, the private news agency SITA wrote.
Four customs offices will be maintained at the Ukrainian-Slovak border and three customs offices at Slovakia's international airports.
On the other hand, the customs administration has increased capacities in the administration of excise taxes, which now fall under their jurisdiction. Of the 101 inland customs offices, 49 are being preserved, and 52 new customs and tax offices will be established, Silvia Balázsiková, Customs Directorate spokeswoman, told SITA.
The customs administration plans to lay off 608 employees in relation to the border customs office closings, and 164 new civil employees will be hired to the Customs Directorate.
