THE NATIONAL Military Command Center (NMCC) was officially transferred from the US government to the Slovak Ministry of Defence on April 26.
The new centre provides a modern, technologically advanced and integrated centre for Slovakia to direct both military and non-military crisis management activities involving the Armed Forces.
"The NMCC was built for the Ministry of Defence by the Northrup Grumman Corporation at a cost of over $3.8 million (€2.9 million) using security assistance funding from the United States," said US Charge d'Affaires Scott Thayer.
The NMCC is a secure facility for data integration and information processing, display and distribution. It will assist the Slovak Defence Ministry in coordinating military and civilian activities in support of military operations and crisis management, both at the national level and for regional situations.
The centre is technically compatible with NATO and US Command, reads the US Embassy memo to The Slovak Spectator.
In addition to support for NATO and military operations, the NMCC will help the military address natural disasters and non-military threats to Slovakia.
