THE DEPUTY PM for European Affairs, Human Rights, and Minorities, Pál Csáky, has proposed the government set up a Cabinet Council for Gender Equality as an advisory body to prevent discrimination on the basis of gender.
Csáky and the Labour Ministry, which coordinates gender equality in Slovakia, would head the council. Other members would include five NGO representatives, the SITA news agency wrote.
Slovakia is in the running to host the European Institute for Gender Equality as of next year. Brussels is expected to make the final decision by the end of the year on where to locate the institute. Csáky believes the body and the Human Rights Institute in Vienna could be partners, maintaining the balance between new and old EU members.
