The disciplinary senate of the Slovak Supreme Court opened its hearing on Wednesday, November 24, in the case of Judge Juraj Babjak for allegedly prolonging court proceedings.
It was initiated by the head of the Regional Court in Banská Bystrica, Ján Bobor, who proposes to demote Babjak to a court of a lower instance, the SITA newswire wrote. Babjak served as a judge of the Constitutional Court in Košice in the past, and is also known as a signatory and supporter of initiatives seeking to highlight problems in Slovakia’s judiciary. According to Bobor’s proposal, Babjak prolonged court proceedings for between nine and 33 months in four cases.
