Dzurinda and Sedgwick agreed that the new strategy, which was presented at the Pentagon on January 5, confirms the key importance of NATO as a source of stability and security around the world, the TASR newswire wrote. As for Europe, the two partners agreed that despite the US putting additional emphasis on Asia-Pacific and the Middle East, the continent has retained its role as an important partner in ensuring global and economic security.

At the meeting Sedgwick told Dzurinda that Slovakia, as one of ten applicants from central and eastern Europe, had succeeded in obtaining €700,000 for development projects as part of the Emerging Donors Challenge Fund.
