BÉLA Bugár, the acting speaker of the Slovak parliament, yesterday officially announced that early elections will be held in the country on June 17.
In line with Slovakia's election rules, political parties that want to take part in the ballot must pay a Sk0.5 million (€13,370) deposit within 30 days, the Pravda daily wrote.
The government also earmarked Sk398 million (€10.6 million) for the two elections that will take place in Slovakia this year. In addition to the June 17 general elections, municipal elections should be held at the end of the year.
Four years ago, parliamentary elections cost Sk318 million (€8.5 million). This year's elections should be cheaper because, unlike those in 2002, they will only last one day. In 2002 Slovaks had two days to cast their votes.
