Over 150 films by 114 directors from 13 countries were presented between March 5-8 at the first annual Early Melons international student film festival in Bratislava, festival representative Eva Michalková informed the TASR newswire.
Around 1,500 people attended the event, which consisted of three main sections: international student films, Slovak student films and special screenings. Also included were accompanying events, such as a debate with foreign guests and concerts featuring both Slovak and foreign bands.
The jury gave the best documentary award to a film called “O Soni a jej rodine” (About Sonya and her family) by Daniela Rusnoková from the Fine Arts Academy (VŠMU); the best animated film award went to “Life Line” by Tomek Ducki from the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design in Budapestl; and the main festival award was given to two films: “O Soni a jej rodine” and “Under Underground” by Viera Cakanyová from the Film Academy (FAMU).
The jury also presented two honourable mentions to “Zlínska polévka” (Zlin soup) by Akile Nazli Kaya from the Zlin Film School in the Czech Republic and “Lili” by Oliwia Tonteri from the University of Art and Design in Helsinki.
The main award came with €500 in prize money. TASR
