In less than seven weeks into the new year, the Economy Ministry has already approved the construction of two new power plants. One is a project of a small hydropower plant and the other a geothermal power plant. Both energy sources should have a combined installed capacity of less than eight megawatts. The department issued for both projects a certificate of compliance of the investment plan with the long-term concept of the governmental energy policy - without which an investor cannot start to construct an energy source. Investors in these projects are the companies Invest Geocel and Energo-Aqua, the SITA newswire wrote on Monday, February 18.
Geocel Invest plans to build a new geothermal power plant with an installed capacity of about six megawatts near the village of Dargov in eastern Slovakia. According to the investment plan presented by the company to state authorities, the geothermal power plant project in the district of Trebišov should cost €40-45 million. It should generate about 45,000 megawatt-hours of electricity annually. The investor wants to start with the implementation of the project in the second half of this year and completion is scheduled for the end of next year.
The company Energo-Aqua plans to build a small hydroelectric power plant near the village of Svošov in the Ružomberok District. Its installed capacity will be less than two megawatts.
Last year, the Economy Ministry issued the required approvals for six new energy sources. The most common type was a combined generation of heat and electricity using natural gas as the primary energy source. The total installed capacity of electric power sources of the approved projects last year was more than 125 megawatts and of heat nearly 22 megawatts. The project of CPP Zemplín was the largest approved last year with a combined cycle in Strážske and 70 megawatts installed capacity of its electric part.
