ITALIAN energy giant Enel has officially denied reports that it will not sell power producer Slovenské Elektrárne (SE) to Russian firm Rosatom.
Enel spokesperson Roberta Vivenzio said they have not excluded any of the parties interested in the purchase, as quoted by the TASR newswire.
“Enel hasn’t ruled out any of the bidders interested in SE. The process is transparent and open to all potential candidates,” Vivenzio said, as quoted by TASR.
This follows reports that Enel might exclude Rosatom from the sale so as to avoid pressure from the European Union amid its sanctions on Russia over the conflict in Ukraine.
Enel might sell its majority shares in SE (the minority shareholder is the Slovak government) to a Chinese or European investor, the Sme daily reported, citing the Bloomberg agency.
Rosatom was one of the forerunners among the bidders.
The Italian firm’s situation was further complicated two weeks ago when Slovak police searched several of its sites.
Enel is currently in a dispute with the Slovak government after asking for more money and time to finish building the nuclear power plant in Mochovce.
The value of Enel’s share has been estimated at €2.7 billion.
