EU member states on Wednesday, September 30, accepted the nomination of the Slovak Ambassador to the EU Maroš Šefčovič for the post of the Slovak EU Commissioner, the TASR newswire wrote. He replaces Ján Figeľ who submitted his resignation after he was elected as chairman of the Christian Democratic Movement (KDH).
Šefčovič held an interview with EC President Jose Manuel Barroso on September 29. Afterwards, Barroso asked EU member states to accept his nomination, TASR newswire wrote.
Šefčovič must also go through a hearing in the European Parliament. The exact date of the hearing is not yet known. TASR
